The following is a list of some of the most common foot ailments.
This list is not comprehensive and you may be experiencing symptoms
or pain relating to some other condition not included on the list. |
| |
(Heel Spur) |
Plantar Fascitis is usually
a result of an inflamed ligament (plantar fascia) on the bottom of
the foot that attaches to the heel bone. Constant abnormal pulling
of this ligament irritates the heel bone and the body lays down a
bone spur as a protective mechanism. Both heel pain and heel spurs are frequently
associated with an inflammation of this band of fibrous connective
tissue (fascia).
Inflammation of this tissue is called Plantar Fascitis. |
Plantar
Fascitis may be aggravated by shoes that lack appropriate
support, especially in the arch area, and by the chronic
irritation that sometimes accompanies an athletic lifestyle.
Footcare USA
orthotics
(arch supports) are designed to relieve this pain by
supporting the ligaments and bones of the feet. |

| A bunion is an enlargement of
bone or tissue around the joint at the base of the big toe.
Bunions are most often a symptom of faulty mechanics of the foot. |
People with
flat feet or low arches are more prone to develop bunions
than those with higher arches. The consequences of
untreated or ignored faulty foot mechanics can be devastating.
Early detection of fallen or flat arches of the foot is very
important in avoiding the deforming changes associated with
Bunions.
Footcare
USA orthotics
(arch supports) are designed to support the arches of the foot
and promote normal foot mechanics. |

 |
| Hammer toes result from a muscle
imbalance which causes the ligaments and tendons to become
unnaturally tight. This results in the joint curling downward.
|
The condition
may occur as a result of pressure from a bunion. Left
untreated, foot ailments such as Hammertoe may produce
problems in other weight-bearing joints, such as the hips or knees.
Footcare
USA orthotics
(arch supports) are designed to support the arches of the foot
and eliminate muscle and ligament tightness by maintaining a
properly balanced foot. |

| Calluses are thickened layers of
skin caused by repeated pressure or friction.
Bunions,
misalignment of the metatarsal bones (the bone
structure of the sole of the foot), flat feet and high arched feet
are some of the causes of Callus formation. |
| Footcare
USA orthotics
(arch supports) are very effective
in correcting any misalignment of metatarsal bones. This
restores normal foot mechanics and helps prevent abnormal
pressure and/or friction on the bottom surface of the foot. |

| A Neuroma is an
irritated, swollen nerve in the ball of the foot, classically
described as a pain in the ball of the foot located between the base
of the third and fourth toes. Mechanical problems with the feet such
as "over pronation" (flat feet) often contribute to the condition. |
Over pronation
causes your arches to flatten out when you stand up. This
causes your ankles to roll in towards each other and disturbs
your normal walking pattern. If a foot over pronates the
structures of the foot are put under stress, which increases
the likelihood of a Neuroma occurring.
Footcare USA
orthotics
(arch supports) are designed to support the arches of the foot
and maintain normal foot mechanics. This prevents over
pronation and helps protect the structures of the foot. |
